John Skelton began his career in the refrigeration industry as an apprentice in 1984 and has since built over four decades of experience across the RACHP sector. His career spans contracting, consultancy, technical sales, and senior engineering leadership roles, including serving as Head of Engineering for major UK retailers. With deep practical and strategic expertise in refrigeration, John has consistently championed engineering excellence, operational efficiency, and the advancement of industry standards. He brings a broad perspective shaped by working across the full lifecycle of refrigeration systems—from design and installation through to optimisation and long-term asset management. John is a committed advocate for the development of people within the industry. He currently serves as Trustee and Treasurer of the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR), supporting governance, education, and charitable initiatives that promote skills development and professional growth. He has also played a key leadership role within the British Refrigeration Association, serving as Chair of the End User Group and as Vice President. A passionate supporter of training and emerging talent, John has contributed to industry development through mentoring, governance, and judging national awards. He is dedicated to raising standards, supporting the next generation of engineers, and ensuring that technical excellence is aligned with practical, commercially sustainable outcomes.
